Plymouth Harbor Jetty

Yesterday was fairly busy with more nothingness. We went to breakfast in Kingston just outside of Pymouth at Persy's. They have huge omelets. I have mine made with egg beaters.

But I still bring half of it home. Then I went for a walk on the Plymouth harbor jetty. It might be a mile round trip. I hadn't walked it since last summer and it looked like the rocks moved. The crevices between the rocks got huge or my legs got a foot shorter. Probably the latter.

Then we did our weekly tour of houses for sale. Of course the only one's I like, I can't afford.

Then it was back home to do the weekly ritual of mowing the lawn. This time I had to mow the field area which I don't maintain as a real lawn. I had to mow it because it was almost up to my knees. There are three almost dead maples that line the
street. One of them has giant weeds around the trunk. I got out the round-up to kill it and ended up with a million ants on me. It was quite traumatic but I survived the ordeal. Bob can't believe I can do the entire job. I can't either, but on the bright side it is good exercise.

Half Sour Pickles

I started a batch of half sour pickles. It was my mother's recipe from fourty years ago. They were always a great success. Here is the recipe:

3 lbs. pickling cukes

1/2 cup kosher salt. disolve in 4 cups of warm water. pour over cukes in jar.

2 Tbsp. pickling spices. Put in jar with cukes.

1/2 dozen garlic cloves split in half. Throw in jar.

2 to 3 strands of dill.

Back in the old days we left the jar on the counter and in a week or two they were ready to eat. They would get a little scummy on top but we would skim off the scum. (LOL) This batch I put in the frig. Nothing is happening. So I think I have to let the bacteria or scum happen. So back out on the counter they go. We'll see what happens.

Yard Work

I've been working on the yard all weekend. Between weeding, mowing, & planting I'm worn out. It's shaping up nicely. The peonies are in bloom and are so beautiful. The pictures don't do them justice. I planted a few pickling cukes in a sunny area on the side of the yard. Pole beans & grape tomatoes are near the garage. As you can tell there is no formal garden area but it works for me. It's getting pretty humid out so I'm losing my ambition rapidly.

An update for Lisa & Barbara

Yesterday was a perfect day. Bob was a volunteer at his motorcycle poker run for the South Shore Hogs. I did a little food shopping in the morning and then decided to mow the lawn. I met my neighbor Barbara & her dog Riley. We started talking & did more talking. Noodle came over & greeted Riley. She is never usually interested in visiting the neighbors. My variegated weigelia is in full bloom so I took a picture of them along side the driveway. I also planted some strawberries & 2 mandevillas which I put in large pots on our side deck. My work friend Lisa who I think is reading this boring blog knows everything about flowers & gardening. I feel that I have to update with more stuff to keep her interested. LOL.
One last thing. Here is a photo of my latest quilt that I made and had machine quilted. I am pleased with the quilting of it. The pattern is called Thirty Stars. Well gotta go to work now.

Nothing important

Well finally it's Friday. Yahoo! After eating the bacon explosion last Sunday, I went to the gym four days this week. I did my usual arm exercises which is hopeless. I'll never have "guns". LOL. I did 2 miles jogging & walking on the treadmill. Yesterday I walked in the house to the Walk away the pounds video which I think is the best. I think you get a better all around workout than on the treadmill. Just my opinion.

My husband just reminded me that this week is the Brimfield antiques flea markets. I love it there. There is tons of walking. I am ready for it, but unfortunately he can't walk much because he's recovering from an Achilles tendon problem. It's no fun to go to Brimfield alone. So I'll just do yard sales around here.

The bacon explosion

Yesterday I made the bacon explosion as seen on "The Today Show" last Friday. I changed it a little save about 5000 calories. I used Italian turkey sausage instead of pork. That should help a little bit. The bacon is the real killer. You first make a basket weave from bacon slices. Sprinkle a spicey dry rub over it and then roll out turkey sausage over it. Fry up more bacon, chop it up & sprinkle over sausage. Finally roll up & pour home made bbq sauce over the whole thing & smoke it for about 1 1/2 hours. I bought a mini stove top smoker a few years ago at Williams Sonoma. It is the easiest thing to use. Love it. Voila. A great, great dish. Here are some pics.

Saturday

Well nothing much going on. Went looking for yard sales. I was on the lookout for a Singer featherweight sewing machine. I saw a few million on Ebay, but how do you really know what your getting. At one of the yard sales were brand new Marvin windows. We bought 2 for $40.00. Then went to a singer store & bought a machine for $350.00. It runs like a charm.

Here is the latest picture of cute little Noodle and an interesting bunch of grapes.
